Beginnings

This November, a team of seven individuals (including myself) will embark on a journey to Siem Reap, Cambodia for a ten day mission. Through a partnership with North Point Community Church (NPCC) and the Cambodia Hope Organization (CHO), we aim to teach women and children about the importance of God’s love and his purpose for them. Simultaneously, the Cambodian people will educate us on their country’s growing epidemic: human trafficking. This blog will document our preparation for the trip, implementation, and afterthoughts. This is NPCC’s first trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia, and first mission dealing with the distressing topic of human trafficking.

On Sunday, June 26, we held our first team meeting at NPCC’s Alpharetta campus. It was a relief to finally meet the team and really start to connect with one another. Our team leader, Matt, distributed reading materials, devotionals and a proposed itinerary (I was so excited to see elephants on the agenda!). Matt also handed out leadership roles – I’m the Communications Chair (thus the blog); Nadine is team Treasurer (God bless her); Robert will be educating us on the Cambodia culture (aka the dos and don’ts); and Kim is our Security Chair, and will be responsible for briefing us on the travel safety & security study guide that was handed out at the meeting.

Throughout our meeting, we discussed us letting go and letting God take control of this trip. As humans, we try to prep and prepare, but ultimately, God has his own plan for us. Our first team devotional, Galatians 3:3, really reinforces this message: "Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?" I think we’re blessed with a really strong group, and I’m eager to see what all God has in store for us as a team.
