We'd Love to Hear From You

We had our second meeting this week, at Kim’s house. We discussed leadership roles within the soldier camp, along with seminar teams. I’m thrilled to be a part of the women’s seminar at CHO, and can’t wait to meet all the strong, courageous women and their families.

Throughout the meeting, we threw around a couple of fun community ideas, including an “American night” (visually stimulating animated movie, freshly popped popcorn, and maybe even some hotdogs). We’re also trying to find a Polaroid camera to take with us, that way we can print out pictures on the spot to decorate their community center with. I can see the children’s faces now as the picture slowly develops on the film. How fun! If you (the reader), should have any new, exciting ideas we could take with us, please post them! We’d love to hear from you.

In the case that you're a visual person (I know I am), here’s a video CHO created. It’s extremely moving and almost functions as a wake up call…

Thankful

So thankful for the team. I'm humbled by their commitment and enthusiasm. We are small but so was Gideon's army (Judges 7). It leaves no doubt as to who gets the glory and praise.

Don't be like Sodom

As we continue to prepare spiritually, mentally, and physically for our trip the following verse keeps coming to mind:
Ezekiel 16:49 (NASB95)
“Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy.

Sodom is usually remembered for...well...other sins. But here we clearly see the importance of social justice in God's eyes. How we treat each other matters. In the case of this trip, the poor and the needy are also at risk or have become victims to slavery, a social issue that claims more victims today than it ever did and the height of the North American trade. We will not be quite.

Follow Christ - not a cause.

Luke 14:26 (NASB95)
26 “If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.

There must be nothing that comes between us and our devotion to Jesus Christ. Not people, not things, not causes. While standing up for a cause is an honorable deed. We must all guard our hearts so that the cause does not become our idol. It is not the cause we follow – It is Jesus Christ. MD

All Eyes On Cambodia

As the extremely public trial continues on, it seems that a sense of hope is slowly being restored to the Cambodian people as they seek justice against the horrific rule of the Khmer Rouge. More than thirty years later and 1.7 million dead, how is it that Khmer Rouge leaders are just now being prosecuted??

Here’s a short video update on the trial.
