A Spirit of Unity

This past Friday, we headed over to Perimeter Church in Johns Creek for some team bonding. I have to admit, I wasn't too keen on the "high ropes course" idea (not a huge fan of heights), but it ended up being a great way to connect and unify the team.

Through the various obstacles, we learned the importance of teamwork and leaning on one another in times of need. We realized that we all possess different strengths, and weaknesses, but in the end, we are all here to serve one purpose: to spread God's love where it's needed most. That evening, I came across this great verse, which pretty much sums it all up:

Romans 15:5-7
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another, then just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

God at Work

In November 2010, we met this family at the Soldier Camp. Despite their smiles, this daughter, her mother, and the daughter's son were homeless. The community helped as much as they could by sharing food and a floor to sleep on. We met two other homeless families. One women would care for her granchild while her daughter worked as a prostitute in a local restaurant. This was the only job she could find that provided enough support for the family, but yet it wasn't even enough support to provide a home. Our team easily came to the conclusion that our leftover team funds should be spent in this community. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we were able to leave $13,000 for CHO to spend at the Soldier Camp. Part of this money went to building a home for the family above, and two other families at the Soldier Camp. Along with the houses, they were given pots, pans, and chickens to provide a source of revenue through the sale of the eggs.
